Analysis of Album covers - Blink 182 - Kids in Glass Houses - Lostprophets

The music genre of the artists of thsi album is rock/alternative, I believe from the cover of the CD you can see that the band are trying to be different so on some level you can see the genre is alternative, although the rock side of the band doesn't particuarly come through in this album cover. The artists are "Kids in Glass Houses", they have not put themselves on their front cover which is rather parculiar as this is their first album cover, although doing more research I found that this was because they had already made a name for themselves and were already well known by a wide range of people, therefore had their audience and did not need to use the front cover to make themselfs recogniseable as they had already done this previously through MySpace and previous gigs they had done. The title of the album is "Smart, casual" this also suggests that the band had already made their name and they didn't have to go all out there to make themselfs heard or known, further suggesting that they already have the amount of fame they want and need to be a success. There is no setting on the front cover of this album because it is a cartoon image, although the background is a light, casual green. The image in front of the background (the foreground) is an image of a cartoon woman licking a lolly pop. The typical target market including age, gender and background I'd say are teenagers from the age of 13 up to 20, mainly boys, although girls do pay some interest in them (like myself) and mainly middle class I believe woudl listen to this band, due to the cost of the album and so on.

The genre of the music to this Album cover is rock, I would say it is quite obvious from the cover due to the text, the font suggests that the people who sing the music to this album are very rock star and the people who like it are very out of control and just want to party all of the time as there is no order to the way the text is presented. They are not on the cover, the reason being is because this is Blink 182's greatest hits album cover which means that they were already very very famous by the time this album was brought out, with many songs on this album known world wide. The aritists are "Blink 182". The album title is just "The greatest hits" as there is no need for another name. There is no setting for the front of the album cover because, again, there is nobody on the cover, although the background is black. The band are represented in not a highly interesting way. The colours are very dull using very minimul amount of colour which is just black and grey. I believe the band are not on the front because they were already hugely well known, world wide in fact, so there was no need to put an image on the front, and the bands symbol itself will make it easy enough for their fans to recognise that it's their album. The mood given off by this album cover is a very dull and bleak mood, this is widely, once again, due to the colours on the album cover. The target audience for this band is actually a very wide audience, ranging from, i'd say, young teens to people in their late thirties. The people in this target market would be mainly interested in rock music, and mainly boys/men would like them, I know this because I am a fan of Blink 182 myself and I have asked who enjoys their music and the majority are boys, not only that but if you visit their fan page it's mainly boys.

The genre of the aritist to this album is rock, I believe you can quite clearly see this from the cover of the album due to the dark colours that are used in the image, there are also red splashes on the front of the cover which appears to be splashes of blood, this indicates hardcore, perhaps heavy rock music. There is no image of them on the front cover, this is because Lostprophets were very well known at the time this album came out, they didn't feel the need to put themselves on the cover as people already knew them and they had already reached their market beforehand. The name of the artists if this CD are "Lostprophets", they are a widely well known band who are mainly seen on music channels such as Kerrang, Scuzz and MTV, which widely fits into my category of music that I am using for my project. The title of this album is "Liberation Transmisson" which is in fact a name of one of their most famous songs at the time which was on the album. Once again their is no photographic image on the cover, and there is mearly just a symbol of an eagle, this represents how high up in the chain they are in fame and fortune as the eagle symbolises status as they are seen to be one of the strongest most high up in status birds. The colours are once again quite dull apart from the white background which highly seperates itself from the main image. The target audience for this band I believe are older teens to people in their early fourties, you can see this as the album cover looks very mature and serious, quite clearly not targeting anyone younger than this age, boys and girls like this band.
