These are all of the different Media technologies we used throughout the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages of our media product. Each of these technologies had huge purpose and a lot of importance and without these technologies we would not have been able to carry out our task. Although some of these technologies took a while to get used to, it was well worth it in the end as I have gained many different skills and techniques when using these programmes throughout the whole process.
YouTube
Throughout the whole project we were constantly using media technologies to either do research for our music video or actually whilst we were in the process of planning, research for our music video and actually creating our very own music video. At the beggining of our planning and researching stages, we had to choose various different music videos that we could individually evaluate and look at in order to get an idea of what types of forms and conventions we would have to include within our music video, the website which I used most throughout this stage was in fact, youtube. It allowed me to look at any types of videos I wanted, including any genre and videos that target any audience - including various different ages, sexes and so on. This of course, helped me with creating my video. We used YouTube a huge amount throughout the task and pretty much for every part of the task including planning, research and creating. When researching for our music videos we were asked to pick out three videos from YouTube which appealed to us most, when we had chosen our three we had to analyse them, based on the visuals, mise en scene, the genre, target audience and so on, this helped us with getting a rough idea on how the certain bands or artists we chose actually presented themselves to an audience.
Adobe Premiere Pro
This was the programme we used to actually upload our video and edit our video by cutting certain parts and placing different parts together to make our video whole, along with adding various different effects to our video. I found that when I started using Adobe Premiere Pro I found it very confusing and thought that it would take me a long time to actually grasp it, although within a few minutes I actually got into the programme and how it worked and what you had to do. Adobe Premiere Pro I found very usefull to use when editing and finalising our music video because it had all of the different tools and features required to make our music video be at a high standard. I found it was a very good programme to use if you wanted to experiment with using different effects and so on. Before we actually uploaded the parts of our video to Adobe Premiere Pro, we actually had a practice run, we had to make a storyboard before actually creating our music video and then video the story board, which we then had to upload to Adobe Premiere Pro and edit in the way we would edit our real music video. This, not only was to help us get a rough idea of how we wanted to make our music video and what order we wanted to put things in, but this was mainly to help us come to terms with using the programme that we were given to edit our videos, otherwise it may have taken us a lot longer to grasp it when editing the actual video, then we may have gotten into a panic and thought that we couldn't do it when actual fact we just needed a bit of practice.
Google -
Quite obviously we used the internet a lot for our research for music videos, we used Google Images a lot when coming up with different ideas for album covers, this was so that we could get a rough idea of what an album cover included and what it had to look like to make it look to the best standard we could get it to. We also had to find a certain font in which we wanted to keep continuous throughout our projects advertising, so this font was put on our album cover and also put onto our MySpace page, this was to make our band more recogniseable, the website in which we actually took the font for our album cover off of was "Dafont.com"
Video Camera -
Obviously the most important media technology that we used throughout the whole creation of the music video was in fact the video camera, without the video camera there would have been no video. From the very beggining we were using a video camera, the first thing we had to do was come to terms with actually using the camera all of the time and getting to know the camera and how it worked. The fact that we had a practice run with a storyboard of our music video actually made practicing with the video camera a lot easier than if we were to just mess around with the camera not doing anything particuarly constructive. We then actually had to film our actual video, as I was an actor, I rarely did much filming, although, every part you see on the video that I am not in, I actually took the oppertunity to film the scenes, my group and I decided this was the fairest thing to do and that it would also give me a chance to get to know the video camera even more. Throughout the learning process of using a video camera, we also learnt a hell of a lot about specific shots, and although we already knew about them, we got to learn about them in more detail and how certain shots and angels actually represent something rather than them just "looking good", I also learnt how powerful you can make a scene just by using zoom at the right moment and so on. Not only did we use the camera for the filming of both the storyboard, and the music video, but we also used it when creating our video for "Organised Chaos'" MySpace page, the video we created was to promote our MySpace page and tell the audience the release date of "Not Your Song", we felt this was important as an audience likes to know they are being addressed and spoken to individually, and also through actually filming us out of acting in our music video, and out of role would enable the audience to get a feel of our personalities, which is another important part we used our video camera for.
Myspace
Another important website we used when advertising our band was "MySpace" - we created a page for our band so that they could promote themselves and the new album that is meant to be coming out on a specific date this January - this is stated on the promotion video that we created. Our website also includes a few pictures of the band, and a picture of the band logo and some dates of when our band will be touring. We believed, as a group that this is one of the most important forms of advertising for our band, especially considering our target audience is the age at where they are most likely to be using MySpace, most teenagers have MySpace therefore it is a good way of showing our audience our new band and promoting them, and also to see how popular our band will become. It's also good to keep the world updated as to when and where certain tours are that the group will be doing.
Fireworks
This was the programme we used to actually create our album cover for our CD. As we had already had previous experience with using fireworks due to our ancinary tasks from A2 and AS we actually found the programme easy to use which meant we saved time as we knew exactly what we were doing as soon as we started creating our CD cover. We already knew what to do to add effects etc and how to insert an image and the basics plus more. The most chellenging part of actually creating our album cover, was not the putting together of the album cover it was actually choosing the individual parts, such as when we had to choose a specific font on fireworks to use for our album cover and all of the writing on the album we found it very difficult to find a font that actually represented our band in the way that we wanted our audience to portrait our band, so in the end we decided to use a different website to find a well suited font for our album cover title.
A massively important part of making our music video and working as a team was communication between the group, and we had to think up ways in which we could contact each other throughout the whole video making process and so on. Obviously, we exchanged phone numbers in order to make sure specific things within the group, but we also needed another way of communicating so that we could send each other different parts of our work such as log books and so we could all keep our blogs up to date so that none of our group members were behind on any work. We decided that communicationg through E-mail would be the best possible way to ensure this happens, if it wasn't for e-mail we would not have been able to keep as up to date with each other as we did, and we would have also lacked a huge amount of communication within the group. We also found e-mail was a very effective way of informing each other about very important details, such as confirming whether we were going to film on a certain day after school, what times we wanted to meet if we met up during the weekend, and most importantly if one of our group members were sick one day we would be able to inform our team that we would not be in school for a certain lesson so that we had plenty of notice and could decide what we would do during that lesson with just 2 of our group members.
Blogger
Obviously throughout our research, planning and creating stages we had many different peices of work that we had to keep together and look after, so we had our very own Blogger accounts to do so. Having our very own blogger accounts helped us keep organised throughout our task, it was somewhere where we could keep all of our work so that it was safe and we could go back to specific parts of our work easily and quickly with a click of a button. We used our blogger accounts to put up all of our log books so that we could keep a record of where we were within our task and how far ahead or behind we were and to make sure that we was also up to date. Another useful thing about Blogger is that we could look on our schools Blogger account and see whether we were up to date with what we had done individualy and as a group, as all of the tasks and questions etc was placed on the Blogger account. Blogger also enabled us to see other peoples profiles, therefore allowing us to give each class member constructive critism with their work and their music videos.
Vimeo
Vimeo is the website we used to upload our final video to. It was very useful when recieving feedback from others when they watched and evaluated our video. It also meant that we could access our videos from home, which meant that we could do our evalutions in our spare time rather than just at school, which meant we could make them more detailed and we could spend a lot more time on them.
